Metal roofing systems have gained popularity because of their durability and contemporary appearance. They also allow homeowners to save money on utility costs because of their energy-efficient qualities. This material can be spotted on many commercial or residential properties whether they have a traditional or modern architectural design. Hinkle Roofing shares four historic structures that were built with this type of system.
1. Nassau Hall
When the American Revolutionary War erupted, this building suffered severe damage, especially during the Battle of Princeton in 1777. This historic edifice housed the entire American government in 1783. A metal roofing system, however, was installed after a fire in 1802.
2. Roswell Mansion
This stately home in Virginia rivaled the governor’s palace in size and luxury. It also became a popular venue for grand balls and other gatherings during its time. A lead roofing system covered the residence, which stood from 1725 to 1916.
3. Temppeliaukio Church
Two brothers, Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, designed this place of worship. It was completed in 1969 and has remained one of the most famous churches in Helsinki, Finland. It has been excavated directly into solid rock and uses a copper dome roof.
4. Christ Church
Located in Philadelphia, this church was built in 1965. It was the first parish of the Church of England in the region, which lead to the establishment of the American Episcopal Church. The copper roof with standing seam was later added in 1727.
