Replacing both your siding and windows is a great way to boost your home’s aesthetic appeal. Having both projects done at the same time would definitely be more cost-efficient. But you might be wondering which one should go first. Hinkle Roofing sheds more insight on the matter here.
Windows Before Siding
It’s almost always better to install your windows before your siding. Doing so will help your contractors set them into place and finish the capping and framing. Plus, they won’t have to go through any trim or siding work. However, it still depends on what type of new windows you’re installing.
- New Construction Windows. These windows are installed from the exterior, which means you may have to remove the trim or siding first. Depending on the extent of the window installation project, it may also involve the addition of the moisture barrier, repair of the capping or framing, and waterproofing of the exterior.
- Replacement Windows. Since replacement windows are installed from the interior, you can choose to install them before or after your siding. Removing the siding is no longer required, but your contractor may still examine the framing, capping and moisture barrier to see if they are in good condition. Window replacement is best left in the hands of a professional installer.
Siding as a Last Step
Try thinking of your siding as a finishing step to your project. With your new or replacement windows now finished, you can finally put on your siding. This will help make sure that you will not need to redo or rip out any siding work if there are problems with the windows.
